A Grateful Gathering: Celebrating the Season Together

There is something about fall that makes gathering together feel especially meaningful. As the days grow shorter and the air turns cooler, it’s a beautiful time to slow down, reflect on our blessings, and spend an evening with the people who make life so special.

One of my favorite traditions each year is our Grateful Gathering. It gives us the opportunity to open our home, bring people together, and thank our clients for the trust and support they have shown us throughout the years.

Real estate is about so much more than buying or selling a home. It’s about the people we meet along the way, the stories they share with us, and the relationships that continue long after closing day. So many of our clients have become friends, and I feel incredibly blessed to be a part of their lives.

Our Grateful Gathering is one small way for us to celebrate those relationships and show our appreciation for the people who make what we do so rewarding.

A Fall Evening on the Terrace

This year, we welcomed everyone to our home for an evening of good food, seasonal cocktails, and time together on the back terrace. We arranged tables throughout the space so guests could mingle and catch up, with football games on and a big fire going in the fire pit as the evening went on.

Saucehouse BBQ took care of the food, serving pulled chicken and ribs along with comforting sides. There’s something about barbecue on a fall evening that just feels right! And with a fire already going, we had to include everything for s’mores, too.

What I loved most was getting to spend time with everyone. It’s not often that we have the chance to bring so many familiar faces together in one place, and it was wonderful to see people visiting, enjoying the evening, and making themselves at home.

We love putting this gathering together each year and finding little ways to make everyone feel welcome. From the food and drinks to the fall touches around the house, every detail is chosen with our guests in mind.

The Details: Pumpkulents, Candles, and Fall Touches

Part of the fun of hosting is getting ready for everyone to arrive. We love adding seasonal details throughout the house and outdoor spaces, and this year, some of our favorite decorations were the pumpkin succulent arrangements, or “pumpkulents,” that Ellie made with help from her Nana and her cousin Christian.

Making these arrangements has become one of Ellie’s favorite little fall hobbies, and it’s something she looks forward to each year. They started by carefully picking out pumpkins and succulents, choosing a mix of colors and shapes for the arrangements. Once the pumpkins were washed and dry, they hot-glued moss to the tops, then arranged the succulents and dried elements, using a little more moss and hot glue where needed to secure everything.

The dried accents included lotus pods, pinecones, cinnamon sticks, and whole star anise. Each arrangement turned out a little differently, and we loved placing them throughout the gathering spaces. A light spray of water helps keep the moss and succulents hydrated so the arrangements can be enjoyed longer.

We also refreshed the planters around the house and added pumpkins throughout the outdoor spaces. Paired with the glow of the fire, the fall colors helped set the scene for a cozy evening on the terrace.

For our party favors, we worked with Rekindle to have candles made in blush pink jars, a little nod to our Sarah Lee Living pink. We wanted to send everyone home with something they could enjoy after the gathering, along with a reminder of how grateful we are for their friendship and support.

Two Cocktails for the Season

We always love having a few special drinks for guests to enjoy, and this year we chose two cocktails with flavors that felt right at home in the fall: a Pear & Elderflower Spritz and a Maple Old Fashioned.

The spritz was light and refreshing, with pear juice, lemon, St-Germain, vodka, prosecco, and club soda. Dried pear and lemon slices made a lovely finishing touch. The Maple Old Fashioned had a warmer, richer feel, with bourbon, pure maple syrup, and bitters, garnished with a dried orange slice and a Luxardo cherry.

Ellie batched the cocktail bases ahead of time, which made it easier for the bartender to serve them during the gathering. Five Points Bottle Shop helped us get everything we needed for the bar. They are always wonderful to work with, and we’re so grateful for their help year after year!

If you’re planning a fall gathering of your own, or simply want to make something special for a cozy evening at home, we’re sharing both cocktails as individual drinks below.

A Thank-You to Those Who Helped

A gathering like this comes together with the help of so many wonderful people, and I’m especially grateful to our family for all they did to help us prepare and bring everything together.

First, thank you to my daughter, Ellie, for planning and coordinating so many details of the gathering. From preparing the cocktails and creating the pumpkulents to making sure everything came together, your thoughtfulness and hard work made the evening so special. I’m so grateful for you!

Thank you to my mother-in-law, Janice, for helping Ellie with the pumpkulents and getting everything set up. Thank you to my sister-in-law and Sarah Lee Living team member, Heather, for her help with both setup and breakdown, and to my nephew Christian for helping us get ready and capturing photos of the evening.

I’m also grateful to my husband, Rob, my father-in-law, Ronnie, and my brother-in-law, Derek, for stepping in to help with the last-minute setup and breakdown on the day of the gathering. We couldn’t have done it without all of you!

We also had the pleasure of working with some wonderful local businesses. Thank you to Saucehouse BBQ for the delicious food, Rekindle for creating our beautiful candle favors, Barrons for the tables, silverware, and cups, and Five Points Bottle Shop for helping us prepare the bar. We appreciate the care and support each of you brought to our gathering.

With Grateful Hearts

As I reflect on the evening, I keep coming back to how thankful I am for the people who have trusted us to be part of their lives. Whether we’ve worked together recently or have known one another for years, each relationship means so much.

To everyone who joined us, thank you for spending the evening with us and making our Grateful Gathering so special. Your trust, friendship, and support are blessings we never take for granted.

I hope this season brings you time to gather with the people you love, share a good meal, and enjoy the little moments that make this time of year so special.

With gratitude,
